CIRS Mold Testing & Remediation in North Jersey
What is CIRS?
Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) is a debilitating and chronic illness caused by exposure to mold biotoxins, such as from water-damaged buildings. The body responds to the mycotoxins, resulting in an inflammatory response that can cause a range of symptoms, such as fatigue, headaches, joint pain, brain fog, and difficulty concentrating. Unfortunately, the damage caused by CIRS can be long-term and severe, leading to systemic damage throughout the body.
Exposure to mycotoxins in the environment can lead to CIRS in some people and mycotoxicosis in others. In some cases, reactions to environmental mycotoxins can also be referred to as Sick Building Syndrome (SBS), Mold Sensitivity or Biotoxin Illness.
Treatment for CIRS often focuses on identifying the source of the biotoxins and eliminating exposure. Medical professionals may also suggest detoxification treatments, such as intravenous infusions or oral medications, to help reduce the CIRS symptoms and help the body heal. Additionally, lifestyle changes, such as reducing stress and changing your diet, may be necessary to achieve a full recovery from CIRS.
If you have CIRS or Biotoxin illness and suspect your home or office may be affected by mold and mycotoxins, it is time for a professional inspection and assessment. Contact MasterTech Environmental for more information.

- Cognitive symptoms include memory loss, difficulty focusing or concentrating, and brain fog.
- Neurological symptoms include burning or tingling sensations in the hands or feet, motor control issues, tremors, poor balance or coordination, and numbness.
- Psychological symptoms may include depression, anxiety, mood swings, insomnia, and irritability.
- People with CIRS can also experience chemical sensitivities, food intolerances, and hormonal imbalances.
The severity of symptoms can depend on how long a person has been exposed to biotoxins. Those who have had CIRS for longer periods of time are more likely to suffer from more severe and frequent symptom flare-ups. Those suffering from CIRS should seek professional medical help to diagnose their condition and find the best treatment plan.

The Link Between CIRS and Biotoxin Mold
Biotoxin mold starts when there is an accumulation of moisture in a building due to a water leak or flooding. When this happens, some molds can grow and release mycotoxins and other harmful substances into the air. This can cause a variety of respiratory illnesses, as well as chronic inflammation and systemic symptoms. Common molds that produce mycotoxins include Aspergillus, Penicillium, Chaetomium, Stachybotrys. Common mycotoxins found in mold affected homes/offices include: Aflatoxin, Ochratoxin, Trichothecenes, Chaetoglobosins, Gliotoxin.
If you suspect that you have been exposed to biotoxin mold, it is important to get tested for CIRS and seek appropriate treatment. In addition to testing for CIRS, it is important to identify the source of the mold and remove it. MasterTech Environmental can help you identify the source of the mold and develop an appropriate mold and mycotoxin remediation plan. Our team has years of experience in dealing with CIRS-causing biotoxin molds and can provide expert advice and guidance on how to keep your home or office safe.

MasterTech's CIRS Mold Remediation Protocol
Our CIRS Biotoxin Mold Process begins with a thorough assessment of your home or business.
To do this, we’ve developed a Hybrid CIRS Mold Inspection Process that calls for a combination of industry standard mold sampling methods
These methods may include:
- Air testing (spore trap)
- Surface testing (swab and lift tape)
- Bulk sample collection
- Mycotoxin surface sampling (LC/MS)
- Visual inspection
- Thermal Imaging
- Moisture Mapping
- Wall cavity sampling
- Review of client ERMI/HERTSMI testing
This hybrid testing method ensures that both the building and the occupant are considered throughout the entire process. Once the assessment is complete, samples will be analyzed and reported to you. We can include your medical provider. If mold remediation becomes necessary, our mold remediation protocol can include:
- Remediation, removal and/or encapsulation of the mold source.
- Structural dryout of any salvageable building materials and spaces.
- Analyzing, Recommending and/or Implementing solutions to reduce future moisture sources.
- Mycotoxin remediation and small particle cleaning.
By taking a modern and holistic approach to CIRS related mold inspection and remediation, we can help reduce your exposure to biotoxins and ideally, alleviate the symptoms of CIRS Syndrome.
